Generative AI and LLM engineering jobs in Bengaluru
Generative AI and LLM engineer jobs in Bengaluru: building with large language models, RAG and agents, skills, interviews and tips.
Generative AI engineers build products on top of large language models: assistants, search and question answering over company documents, agents that take actions, and tools that write or summarise content. It is the fastest-growing group of AI roles in Bengaluru, at startups built around AI and at established companies adding it to existing products.
Most of these jobs are software engineering with a new set of building blocks, not model research. The hard parts are getting reliable answers, measuring quality, controlling cost and latency, and keeping data safe.
What the work involves
- Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines over company data.
- Design prompts, tools and agent workflows, and test them systematically.
- Build evaluation sets and measure quality, accuracy and safety before each release.
- Choose between hosted models and open models, and fine-tune when it pays off.
- Control cost and latency with caching, smaller models and batching.

How interviews usually run
Interviews mix a regular coding round with questions on how language models work (tokens, context windows, embeddings, why they make things up) and a design round such as building a support assistant over a help centre, covering retrieval, evaluation, guardrails and cost.
Many companies ask for a demo or a take-home where you build a small working application.
How to stand out
- Show a working project with an evaluation: how you measured that answers got better.
- Explain failures you hit and how you fixed them; everyone can make a demo work once.
- Strong general backend skills still decide most hiring calls.
