Data science and analytics jobs in Bengaluru

Data scientist jobs in Bengaluru: statistics, experimentation and machine learning skills, interview rounds and how to stand out.

Data scientists turn data into decisions: they run experiments, build forecasting and recommendation models, and explain what the numbers mean to people who are not technical. In Bengaluru they work in product companies on pricing, growth and recommendations, in banks on credit and fraud, and in global analytics centres for retail, healthcare and finance firms.

The line with machine learning engineering is blurry. As a rule, data scientist roles weigh statistics and business judgement more, and machine learning engineer roles weigh production code more.

What the work involves

  • Design and analyse A/B tests, and tell teams whether a change really worked.
  • Build models for forecasting, churn, fraud, pricing or recommendations.
  • Write SQL and Python to explore data and find what drives a metric.
  • Present findings to product and business leaders and recommend what to do.

Skills employers look for

  • Statistics and experiment design
  • SQL
  • Python with pandas and scikit-learn
  • Machine learning fundamentals
  • Data visualisation
  • Communicating results clearly

How interviews usually run

Rounds usually include SQL, a statistics and probability round (hypothesis tests, p-values, sample sizes, common pitfalls), a machine learning round on how models work and how to evaluate them, and a case study: a metric dropped, so find out why; or design an experiment for a new feature.

Some companies give a take-home dataset and ask for a short report.

How to stand out

  • Show business impact, not just model accuracy: revenue, savings or decisions your work changed.
  • Be precise about statistics; interviewers notice hand-waving about significance.
  • Practise explaining a model to someone with no technical background.

  • Brightspark collects jobs from two kinds of source, and labels each job with which: the careers sites of employers we have chosen to collect from, and open job boards, where any company can post. Choosing which careers sites to collect from is the only selection we make: we do not check individual listings or employers. Check every posting on the company’s own careers site before you apply.
  • Be aware of job scams. A genuine employer will never ask you to pay a fee for an application, interview, training, equipment or an offer letter, and will not ask for bank details, OTPs or ID documents before a formal offer.
