DevOps, SRE and platform engineering jobs in Bengaluru

DevOps, site reliability and platform engineering jobs in Bengaluru: daily work, Kubernetes and cloud skills, interviews and certifications.

DevOps, site reliability engineering (SRE) and platform engineering overlap heavily. All three keep software running reliably and make it easy for developers to ship. DevOps roles lean towards build and deployment pipelines, SRE roles towards uptime, monitoring and incident response, and platform roles towards building internal tools that other teams use.

Bengaluru has some of the largest SRE and platform teams outside the US, because many global companies run their round-the-clock operations and cloud platforms from India. Startups hire DevOps engineers early, often as the first person who owns all of infrastructure.

What the work involves

  • Run Kubernetes clusters and the cloud infrastructure underneath them, defined as code in Terraform.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines so teams can deploy many times a day safely.
  • Set up monitoring, alerting and dashboards, and define service level objectives (SLOs).
  • Take part in an on-call rotation, lead incident response and write blameless post-mortems.
  • Cut cloud costs and automate repetitive operations work away.

Skills employers look for

  • Linux and networking fundamentals
  • Kubernetes and Docker
  • Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code tool
  • AWS, Azure or GCP
  • CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD)
  • Prometheus, Grafana and logging stacks
  • Scripting in Python, Go or Bash

How interviews usually run

Rounds usually cover Linux and networking (what happens when you type a URL, how DNS and TLS work, how to debug a slow server), Kubernetes and cloud architecture, and a scripting or coding exercise. SRE roles at product companies often include a full data structures and algorithms round as well.

Expect a troubleshooting scenario where the interviewer describes an outage and you talk through how you would find and fix it, and a design round on something like a deployment pipeline or a highly available service across regions.

How to stand out

  • Describe incidents you handled: what broke, how you found it and what you changed so it would not happen again.
  • Show infrastructure you built as code, with numbers such as deploy time, uptime or cost savings.
  • A Kubernetes certification (CKA or CKAD) is widely recognised and tests practical skill.
  • Learn one observability stack end to end, from metrics to traces to alerts.

Courses to learn the skills

Hand-picked for the skills this role asks for most. Start with the free tutorials; the paid courses go deeper and often include hands-on labs.

Certifications worth knowing

Recognised by hiring managers for this kind of role. A certificate rarely replaces experience, but it helps at screening and is a structured way to fill a gap.

  • Brightspark collects jobs from two kinds of source, and labels each job with which: the careers sites of employers we have chosen to collect from, and open job boards, where any company can post. Choosing which careers sites to collect from is the only selection we make: we do not check individual listings or employers. Check every posting on the company’s own careers site before you apply.
  • Be aware of job scams. A genuine employer will never ask you to pay a fee for an application, interview, training, equipment or an offer letter, and will not ask for bank details, OTPs or ID documents before a formal offer.
