Data engineering jobs in Bengaluru

Data engineer jobs in Bengaluru: pipelines, Spark, Kafka, Airflow and cloud warehouses, interview rounds and how to stand out.

Data engineers build the pipelines that collect, clean and move data so analysts, data scientists and products can use it. Every company that makes decisions from data needs them, so Bengaluru has a large and steady market across e-commerce, fintech, SaaS, consulting and global analytics centres.

The work has moved from on-premises Hadoop towards cloud warehouses and lakehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks, with Spark, Kafka and Airflow still at the core.

What the work involves

  • Build batch and streaming pipelines that load data from apps, databases and third parties.
  • Model data in the warehouse so it is easy and fast to query.
  • Monitor data quality and freshness, and fix broken pipelines quickly.
  • Tune Spark jobs and queries for cost and speed.
  • Work with analysts and data scientists to give them reliable datasets.

Skills employers look for

  • SQL at an advanced level
  • Python or Scala
  • Apache Spark
  • Kafka or another streaming system
  • Airflow or another orchestrator
  • Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks
  • Data modelling (star schemas, dbt)

How interviews usually run

Expect a hard SQL round (window functions, joins, deduplication) and a Python coding round. Many companies add a data structures and algorithms round. A design round asks you to build a pipeline for a scenario such as tracking orders in real time, covering ingestion, storage, late data and failures.

Questions on Spark internals are common: partitions, shuffles, skew and how you would speed up a slow job.

How to stand out

  • Bring examples of pipelines you built with their scale: rows per day, latency, cost.
  • Know how to handle late, duplicate and changing data; it comes up in almost every design round.
  • Show you care about data quality with tests and alerts, not just moving data.

Disclaimer

Please read this carefully and proceed with caution.

  • Brightspark collects jobs from two kinds of source, and labels each job with which: the careers sites of employers we have chosen to collect from, and open job boards, where any company can post. Choosing which careers sites to collect from is the only selection we make: we do not check individual listings or employers. Check every posting on the company’s own careers site before you apply.
  • Be aware of job scams. A genuine employer will never ask you to pay a fee for an application, interview, training, equipment or an offer letter, and will not ask for bank details, OTPs or ID documents before a formal offer.
