Android development jobs in Bengaluru
Android developer jobs in Bengaluru: the work, the Kotlin and Jetpack skills employers ask for, interview rounds and tips.
India is an Android-first market, so Bengaluru has steady demand for Android engineers at consumer apps in commerce, payments, food delivery, mobility and media, as well as at device makers and global companies building their Android apps from India.
Modern Android work means Kotlin, Jetpack Compose for UI, coroutines for concurrency and an architecture such as MVVM. Employers care a lot about app performance on low-end devices and patchy networks, because that is what many of their users have.
What the work involves
- Build screens and features in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose or the View system.
- Integrate APIs, handle offline states and caching, and keep the app responsive on slow devices.
- Profile startup time, memory and battery use, and fix crashes reported from production.
- Ship through staged rollouts and feature flags, and keep up with each new Android release.
Skills employers look for
- Kotlin
- Jetpack Compose
- Coroutines and Flow
- MVVM or MVI architecture
- Room, Retrofit, Hilt
- Gradle and build performance
- Testing with JUnit and Espresso
How interviews usually run
Most processes include a data structures and algorithms round like any software role, plus an Android round on the activity and fragment lifecycle, Compose state, coroutines and memory leaks. Senior candidates are asked to design an app feature such as an offline-first chat screen or an image feed, covering caching, pagination and error handling.
Some companies send a take-home app to build in a few days and then discuss your choices in a follow-up call.
How to stand out
- Publish an app, or link to open-source Android code, that shows clean architecture and tests.
- Talk about performance numbers you improved: cold start, frame drops, APK size, crash-free rate.
- Know Compose well; it is now the default for new screens at most companies.
